| Developer Cites Cold Weather For Delay In Route 65 Kilbuck Improvements
A shopping center developer wants more time to install slope and groundwater monitors at the site of a landslide that closed Route 65 near Pittsburgh last year. The state Department of Environmental Protection is threatening to fine Kilbuck Properties $470,000 for missing earlier deadlines to stabilize the site of a new Wal-Mart in Kilbuck Township. The company has until April 19 to submit a plan to stabilize the site and until Oct. 31 to permanently fix the problem. But under that agreement, the monitors were to be installed by Feb. 19. The developer said frigid temperatures earlier this month prevented it from finishing that work. .
HSN's Bella Cucina Zip Cookers
HSN LP, previously known as the Home Shopping Network, is recalling its Bella Cucina 'Zip Cookers' because of a burn hazard. Hot food under pressure can be expelled from the cooker causing burn injuries. HSN has received seven reports of incidents resulting in eight injuries involving first, second and third degree burns. The recalled product is a Bella Cucina 'Zip Cooker,' model number 03908. The name and model number are on the bottom of the pot. The units were sold via HSN's television network, Web site and toll-free number from February 2003 through March 2004, and at HSN employee and retail outlets from March 2003 through June 2004 for about $70. Consumers should stop using these products immediately. Consumers who do not receive a direct notice should contact HSN for instructions on how to receive a full refund.
Mirror, Mirror | Slim duds, cleverly marketed
While sitting in an Italian restaurant during New York Fashion Week last month, I struck up a conversation with Elana Rivera of the Upper East Side. After a few minutes of idle banter, she spied my red shopping bag. "Spanx!" said Rivera, 21. "Ooohhh - you have Spanx! Can I see them? I always wanted a pair. I'm a singer and that's what everyone in the entertainment industry wears - Spanx!" It certainly seems that way. Six years ago, Sara Blakely invented the slimming footless pantyhose when she needed something to wear under white jeans, and realized nothing existed. "There just weren't the right undergarments out there," said Blakely, 35, whose Atlanta-based company grossed more than $100 million in retail sales last year. "It [Spanx] broadens a woman's wardrobe, regardless of size." The most fascinating thing about Spanx is not that Blakely, who worked as a saleswoman for a copier company, is at the helm of a small fashion empire (yet big enough to hold an open house at the Bryant Park Hotel during Fashion Week).

Shopping for ideas: North side retailers seek ways to make mall succeed
It was called the north side's own Hilldale when it was built. More than 40 years later, history may repeat itself at the city's northern shopping hub. "I don't necessarily like Hilldale, but they've sure attracted shops there," said Dave Bruns, who runs Northside Town Center with his cousin, Don Bruns. As the family-owned and -run shopping center at Northport Drive and Sherman Avenue seeks solutions to retail vacancy, crime and improving the business climate, it is considering options including becoming more of a mixed-use development. .
Southridge seller Mills extends trading period
The Mills Corp., which has agreed to be acquired for $25.25 per share, has been granted an additional one-month trading period through April 2 by the New York Stock Exchange, subject to reassessment on an ongoing basis. The Chevy Chase-based shopping mall developer (NYSE: MLS) was supposed to file its 2006 financial reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission by March 1 under an agreement reached with the NYSE late last year. .
